Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - BSE Control.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

91 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the requirements of regulations, if any, in force, governing the treatment, storage and disposal of blood from dedicated plants to which herds, in which BSE is confirmed, are removed for slaughter. [6143/98]

Herds in which a case of BSE is diagnosed are slaughtered at a dedicated slaughtering plant in County Limerick. The blood from these animals is processed and stored pending destruction.
