Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Arts Funding.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

328 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will support the highly popular but threatened voluntary short-wave radio service, West Coast Radio Ireland Company, which broadcasts weekly to Irish emigrants and others in North America, Africa and Europe; and if and when she proposes to meet with the promoters to discuss the project. [7070/98]

I discussed issues of concern to the representatives of West Coast Radio Ireland, who provide programming which is broadcast on a shortwave radio service in Germany, when I met them on 20 February 1998. While I have no discretionary funds available to me to support the activities of West Coast Radio Ireland, I am at present investigating the availability of other sources of funds.
