Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Special Education Needs.

Nora Owen

Question:

412 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide an autistic person (details supplied) in County Dublin with appropriate education suitable to his needs in an educational establishment. [7157/98]

I understand that the child in question is of pre-school age. Responsibility for pre-school services for autistic children currently rests with the Minister for Health and Children.

However, my Department's inspectorate has been asked to investigate the special needs of this child with a view to addressing the child's long-term educational requirements.
