Vol. 489 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Places.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

124 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress in providing extra second level places for the boys' schools in Naas, County Kildare; the progress, if any, made in the identification of the precise extent of the requirements; the date by which he expects to be in a position to advance the proposals further; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7662/98]

The planning section of my Department has reviewed the needs of the Naas catchment area and projects a long-term enrolment figure of 800 permanent places for Naas boys' secondary school. An extension to cater for this figure will now be planned.

My Department is currently compiling a schedule of accommodation for the school based on an enrolment of 800 students and this will be issued to the school as quickly as possible. I stress that the project in Naas is one of a large number at various stages of architectural planning and it is not possible at this point to give even an approximate date for the start of construction.
