Vol. 489 No. 1

Written Answers. - Computerisation Programme.

Austin Deasy

Question:

37 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will ensure that St. Mary's National School, Ballygunner, Waterford, is included in the joint ICT programme between his Department and Telecom Éireann entitled, Schools IT 2000 Pilot Scheme, in view of their commitment and record for promoting the use of computers within the classroom; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7471/98]

Telecom Éireann has also agreed to assist my Department with the piloting of new emerging technologies under the schools integration project, SIP, dimension of Schools IT 2000. This matter is under discussion with Telecom officials and the national centre for technology in education will shortly draw up criteria for the selection of SIP participating schools. The SIP projects will include schools which implement models of good practice in ICT integration and schools which are at an earlier stage of ICT development.

I would like to assure the Deputy that this school will be considered for inclusion in the project.
