Question:

57 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of students and average cost per capita per annum for each student at primary, secondary and third level education; and the plans, if any, he has to give greater priority for additional expenditure in relation to each category. [7441/98]

The data in relation to the number of students and the cost per student at each level for 1995-96 is as follows:

The resource needs of the education system in general and the categories within it are subject to ongoing assessment and review in my Department in the light of present education policy and proposed future developments.
