Vol. 489 No. 2

Written Answers. - Magazine Prices.

Ivor Callely

Question:

79 Mr. Callely asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the price variance of magazines sold in the United Kingdom compared to the price in Ireland; the measures, if any, that could be introduced to address this; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5589/98]

As the Dáil was previously informed by my predecessor, the Director of Competition Enforcement has been asked to investigate the pricing/distribution arrangements for magazines. I understand this investigation is still ongoing. It will be for the Competition Authority to consider the outcome to that investigation and to take such action as they consider to be warranted by the findings.
