Vol. 489 No. 5

Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

Liam Aylward

Question:

129 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will agree to meet with representatives of a project (details supplied) in County Kilkenny at an early date to discuss the matter outlined in Deputy Aylward's letter to her of 5 March 1998 to which an acknowledgment has not yet been received. [8491/98]

Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands (Miss De Valera)

The Deputy's letter dated 5 March was received in my office on 16 March and acknowledged on 31 March. It refers to the allocation made to a project under the EU Operational Programme for Tourism, 1994-99 and I have no evidence to suggest that a figure of £300,000 was ever formally approved for it. As I outlined in my reply to the Deputy's earlier Parliamentary Question No. 170 of 4 March, 1998, the figure approved was £200,000.

I can assure the Deputy that that allocation is sufficient to complete the project works as specified in my reply to his question of 4 March. In all the circumstances, I cannot see how a meeting, as requested by the Deputy, would help the situation.
