Vol. 489 No. 5

Written Answers. - Phoenix Park.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

130 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the reason correspondence from the Navan Road Community Council in relation to the Phoenix Park has not been replied to; if she will agree to meet a delegation from the Council to discuss a number of aspects of the administration and uses of the Phoenix Park which are a cause of concern; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8493/98]

I can confirm to the Deputy that I have indeed received correspondence from the Navan Road Community Council relating to the Phoenix Park.

As the Deputy may be aware, I have announced my intention to carry out a review of my predecessor's policy on the use of the Phoenix Park for large-scale public cultural, musical and heritage events, which was published in May 1997, and as part of this process to engage in broad consultation with interested parties.

I am currently awaiting submissions from key interested parties and would hope to be in a position to meet with local residents groups, including representatives of the Navan Road Community Council, after Easter.
