520 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 293 of 24 March 1998, the reason his answer contained no reference to circular letter S18/97 of 22 December 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9011/98]
The November 1997 circular letter notified local authorities of the Government decision in relation to pension increases for public servants who retired before the commencement dates of PCW restructuring pay deals. The December circular letter, issued in response to queries from local authorities, was intended to clarify certain aspects of the earlier circular letter and did not in any way amend the authorisation given to local authorities to implement the Government decision.
