Question:

629 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding improvements to a courthouse (details supplied) in County Cork; the estimated costs of these works; and if funding will be made available in 1998 to enable these works to be carried out. [9341/98]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 618 and 629 together.

As I indicated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 128 of 19 February 1998, my Department is examining a revised set of plans which have been received recently from the local authority concerned.

The Deputy will appreciate that it is not possible at this stage to provide a costing or a timescale for the work given the nature of the planning, consultation and tendering processes involved. He may be assured, however, that I am committed to providing modern court facilities in the area in question as quickly as possible.
