183 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his Department has a free telephone number, 1890, for the convenience of the public; and, if so, the action, if any, taken to bring this service to public notice. [8720/98]

The Department of the Marine and Natural Resources was one of the initial Departments to set up LoCall telephone access as provided by Telecom Eireann's LoCall 1 890 service.

The service available at 1 890 44 99 00 provides telephone access to the Department's headquarters from anywhere in the country for the price of a local call.

Information on this telephone access facility was conveyed to the public by way of advertisements placed in the national newspapers and on the Government Internet site.
