Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Fishing Licences.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

184 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when a fishing licence will be given to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal. [8825/98]

Within the overall context of EU fishing fleet policy, which governs the overall permissible capacity of member states' fleets, domestic sea-fishing boat licensing policy requires that equivalent capacity must be removed from the Sea Fishing Boat Register before a new vessel may enter the fleet.

I am advised that the person in question applied for a sea fishing boat licence in 1992, but has not to date made any proposals for the withdrawal of equivalent capacity from the Sea Fishing Boat Register. Pending receipt of such proposals, the Department is not in a position to progress the licence application in question.
