Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Alan Shatter

Question:

740 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will provide the funding for stage 2 of the development of Coláiste Eanna boys school, Ballyroan, Dublin 16; if his attention has been drawn to the condition of the prefabs which are being used as classrooms by children in the school; and if his sanctioning of the construction of Knocklyon Post Primary School affects his Department's plans to proceed with the further development of Coláiste Eanna boys school to which his predecessor was committed. [9154/98]

The project to provide an additional 1,980 square metres of accommodation at Coláiste Eanna, Ballyroan, Dublin 16, had reached stage 1, site report-suitability, of architectural planning. As the Deputy will be aware, however, I recently announced the provision of a new second level school at Knocklyon. The planning section of my Department is currently assessing the long-term accommodation requirements at this new school. This exercise involves an impact study on Coláiste Eanna. Pending the outcome of the study it will not be possible to progress the architectural planning of the project for Coláiste Eanna. However, it is the intention of my Department to finalise this matter as quickly as possible in order to determine the appropriate accommodation requirements for Coláiste Eanna.
