Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Social Housing Policy.

Seán Ryan

Question:

204 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of low cost house sites taken up to date in relation to his Department's social housing policy; if this scheme is still being operated by the various county councils; and if it provides for applications from housing co-operatives. [9860/98]

Details of the number of sites provided by local authorities under the low cost housing sites scheme are contained in Part VI of the Department's Annual Housing Statistics Bulletin for 1997, copies of which are available in the Library. Under the scheme, housing sites may be provided at a low cost to persons in need of housing to assist them in providing their own housing. Such housing may be provided either individually, with the help, if necessary, of the other social housing measures, or collectively, through the voluntary housing schemes, special group shared ownership projects or housing co-operatives. The administration of the scheme is a matter for individual housing authorities.
