Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - School Facilities.

David Stanton

Question:

294 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the arrangements in place in schools to ensure that dust created in woodwork rooms, in particular fibre board dust that may be cancer causing, is prevented from entering the air and thereby causing a health hazard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9928/98]

The technical staff of my Department are currently examining the question dust extraction facilities in post-primary schools. It is intended that a pilot project on the installation of a new system will be initiated shortly. The results of the pilot scheme will be used to determine general policy in this area.
