Vol. 490 No. 5

Written Answers. - Rural Water Programme.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

34 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will introduce a scheme of grants for farm households for water supplies and heating in view of the publication from the CSO entitled Demographic, Social and Economic Situation of the Farming Community; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10482/98]

The rural water programme, which is administered by the local authorities, provides grant assistance of up to £1,600 to farm households participating in a group water scheme or upgrading or providing an individual domestic water supply where a group or public water supply is not readily available. I have no proposals to introduce a scheme of grants for the heating of farmhouses.
