Vol. 491 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

120 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science the projected timescale for refurbishing Leabgarrow national school, Aranmore, County Donegal; whether he is prepared to abate to a reasonable, negotiated proportion the local contribution in relation to work at this school, particularly in view of the disadvantaged nature of much of the local area and having regard to the heavy imposition on a small community of raising 15 per cent of the cost; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11489/98]

The management of Leabgarrow national school has sought tenders for the proposed refurbishment works. Following a satisfactory tender process and the acceptance of a suitable contractor, a contract will be awarded. Construction work should proceed shortly thereafter.

The school is not designated disadvantaged at present and does not, therefore, qualify for 95 per cent funding.
