121 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give a breakdown, on a geographical and on a VEC basis, on the way in which and where the £4 million allocated to adult literacy will be spent in 1998. [11490/98]
The overall provision for the adult literacy and community education scheme has been increased by £2 million in 1998. This increased amount will be used to augment the adult literacy service. The precise use to be made of it is at present under consideration in my Department. In the meantime, pending a decision, grants under the adult literacy and community education scheme are being allocated to vocational education committees at 1997 levels.
