Vol. 491 No. 2

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Liz McManus

Question:

149 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a response will issue to the request by a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow for a permanent visa to remain in Ireland, in view of the fact that the grounds upon which the entry visa she was granted to return from a visit to Thailand was as a co-dependant of an EU national and would appear to establish entitlement for a permanent visa. [11615/98]

Permission was granted to the person concerned on 7 October 1997 to remain in the State for a one year period and she may seek to have her permission to remain renewed at the end of that period. It is the case that under the relevant regulations a dependent of an EU national can seek a residence document for up to five years. However, the provision applies only to those dependants as defined in the regulations.
