Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Nursery Services.

Tony Gregory

Question:

269 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department will provide the necessary additional funding in order that the rates of pay to staff of health board funded nurseries can be increased in line with the decision of the Labour Court; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11691/98]

Gay Mitchell

Question:

294 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps, if any, he will take to stop the closure of a nursery school (details supplied) in view of the vital services it provides for the area. [12006/98]

Nora Owen

Question:

305 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that people running day-care nurseries which are funded 90 per cent by the Eastern Health Board are having great difficulty in paying a recently agreed pay increase to their staff; the action, if any, he proposes to take in this regard to ensure that the day-care nurseries can stay open and the staff can receive their pay increases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12174/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 269, 294 and 305 together.

I understand from the Eastern Health Board that preparations are being made for the implementation, in full, of Labour Court recommendation 15671 in relation to staff employed in day care nurseries. In that context, I understand that industrial action has been deferred and that the day nursery services will operate, as normal, tomorrow, Wednesday, 27 May.
