Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Brian Lenihan — the need to discuss the issue of special educational needs for autistic children, in particular the future of Beechpark Special School, Stillorgan, County Dublin; (2) Deputy Ring — the reason a Garda station, details supplied, in County Mayo has been closed in view of the fact that it is a new building; when it will reopen, particularly in view of the ever increasing number of tourists in the area; and the amount spent in the building of the new station; (3) Deputy Owen — the serious problem being fought by potato growers in north County Dublin due to the destruction of the potato crop through frost in April; (4) Deputy Deenihan — the need to establish a local employment service in Tralee, County Kerry; (5) Deputy O'Sullivan — the urgent need for legislation to provide for post-adoption information and services; (6) Deputy Jim Higgins — the failure of the Government to meet the EU deadline of 3 June next for the implementation of the EU directive on parental leave; (7) Deputy Lawlor — the possibilities for increasing the pressure on the new regime in Indonesia in relation to vindicating the basic human rights of the people of East Timor, now that President Suharto has departed; (8) Deputy Seán Ryan — the crisis in the potato industry, particularly in north County Dublin and the need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to direct Teagasc to carry out a survey of the extent of the problem with regard to the early potato crops; (9) Deputy Allen — the threat to the future of Gaelscoil An Ghoirt Álainn, Cork, in view of the fact that the school authorities have been informed that the Gaelscoil will be evicted from its rented premises next month if a decision is not given regarding the provision of accommodation for the school; (10) Deputy McCormack — the matter concerning the Office of Public Works' report investigating the flooding problem in south Galway; (11) Deputy Shatter — the circumstances which resulted in a person, details supplied, being dismissed from the Army and the need to publish a report detailing the reasons for his dismissal, having first given him an opportunity to consider and respond to the reasons given; (12) Deputy Ulick Burke — the need to explain the costing of £40 million for flood alleviation in south Galway as a result of the consultant's report finding published this week and the failure by the Minister of State to launch the report at a public meeting in Gort and to consult with the local drainage committee prior to its publication; (13) Deputy Rabbitte — the reasons given by a member of the Insurance Ombudsman Council for his resignation from the council and the need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to outline the steps she has taken to satisfy herself as to the veracity of these reasons; (14) Deputies Creed and Michael Moynihan — the need to meet with the local manager of the IDA with a view to establishing a task force to create additional employment opportunities in the Duhallow area in view of the loss of over 150 jobs; (15) Deputy Neville — the discussion paper on the law on sexual offences; (16) Deputy Michael D. Higgins — the impending sale of Atlantic 252 and the broadcasting implications, if frequency is lost, to plans for the extension of broadcasting from Ireland; (17) Deputy McDowell — the plans for the use of private finance to fund improvements in the national infrastructure; (18) Deputy Bradford — the need to provide a permanent school extension at Rathcormac national school, County Cork; (19) Deputy Stanton — the need to sanction the appointment of a remedial teacher to St. Mary's High School in Midleton, County Cork; (20) Deputy Durkan — the recent concerns of the consultants at the conditions in Naas Hospital, County Kildare; (21) Deputies McGinley and Coughlan — the serious matter concerning the future of 41 employees of Herdman's Ballybofey, County Donegal who have been notified that their employment is being terminated; (22) Deputy Timmins — the provision of an ambulance service for Arklow, County Wicklow; (23) Deputy Broughan — An géarghá atá ann le meánscoil nua lánGhaelach in Oirthuaisceart Bhaile Átha Cliath.

The matters raised by Deputies Deenihan, Creed and Moynihan, McGinley and Coughlan and O'Sullivan have been selected for discussion.
