Vol. 491 No. 6

Written Answers. - Bovine Testing.

Billy Timmins

Question:

142 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if the 30 day testing rule applies to animals that may be brought to agricultural shows; if so, if he will establish a more efficient system for these animals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12927/98]

Because of the current incidence of brucellosis, it was decided to introduce a 30 day premovement test for all eligible animals which extends to eligible animals being moved to agricultural shows. However, such animals may be moved to any number of shows during the validity period of the 30 day test unless, in the case of female cattle over 18 months and bulls over 12 months, they are sold.
