199 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals, if any, he has to increase the maximum level of grant aid available for thatching houses in view of the increased costs prevailing; and the estimates and costs for these works as in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who will be subject to any review in terms of an increase in the maximum rate of grant. I am, in the context of the Government's Action Programme for the Millennium, examining possible options to extend the range of measures currently available to assist low income households in securing necessary improvement works to their housing, including the thatching grants scheme. Pending completion of this examination and decisions arising from it, I do not propose to comment on the possible outcome.
