Vol. 491 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Insurance.

Michael Bell

Question:

221 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Louth, who was employed by Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, County Louth and not by the public service, is registered as contribution class D1 since 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12819/98]

Employment in voluntary hospitals is insurable at the modified class D rate of social insurance, where the person is pensionable under the voluntary hospitals' superannuation scheme 1969, is employed in a permanent capacity and the terms and conditions of employment provide for an adequate level of payment during illness. The person concerned is employed in a permanent capacity and has been a member of the superannuation scheme since 1 February 1993. The modified rate of class D social insurance contribution is applicable to her employment from that date.
