Vol. 491 No. 6

Written Answers. - Aer Lingus Group.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

38 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Public Enterprise when a new permanent chief executive of Aer Lingus will be appointed; the position regarding the future of TEAM Aer Lingus; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12749/98]

The House will be aware that I appointed the chairman of Aer Lingus as executive chairman with effect from 21 May 1998. That appointment will continue until such time as a new chief executive is appointed. While the appointment of a new chief executive to Aer Lingus is a matter for the board of that company, I have been assured by the executive chairman that the selection of a suitable person to succeed to that position will be pursued as quickly as possible. I am not in a position to say how long that process will take.

With regard to the future of TEAM Aer Lingus, I refer the Deputy to my replies to Priority Questions Nos. 17 and 18 today.
