Vol. 491 No. 7

Written Answers. - Fundraising Legislation.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

188 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to introduce the recommendations contained in the report of the advisory group on charities and fund-raising legislation of November 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13139/98]

As indicated in the Government's legislation programme, published on 20 April 1998 my Department is committed to bringing forward legislation aimed at reforming the law relating to administration and regulation of charities along the lines of the report of the Committee on Fundraising Activities for Charitable and Other Purposes and the subsequent report of the Advisory Group on Charities/Fundraising Legislation. I am not in a position, at this stage, to give any indications as to when proposals for a Bill might be ready for submission to Government. However, I can assure the Deputy that work will proceed as quickly as possible in the light of the disposal of other legislative priorities.
