Vol. 491 No. 7

Written Answers. - Higher Education Courses.

Beverley Flynn

Question:

205 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo can be allowed to finish his degree course in university (details supplied) in view of the fact that he has only one year left to complete. [13149/98]

I understand from the University of Limerick that the student referred to has successfully completed first and second year of a four year degree course. He has not successfully completed the third year of the course and therefore cannot be admitted to fourth year. I understand that the university authorities wrote to him in November 1997 advising him that he could apply for re-admission but that he has not yet done so.

On successful completion of third year, the student in question will be entitled to free tuition if he commences fourth year and he may also apply to Mayo County Council for a higher education grant at that stage.
