Question:

119 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence the submissions, if any, he has received for the expansion of the role of the Army Apprentice School at Devoy Barracks, Naas, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13180/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 118 and 119 together.

In January 1998, ten communications information services technician apprentices commenced training in the Army Apprentice School, Devoy Barracks, Naas, County Kildare. In addition, four Naval Service apprentices commenced their training in Haulbowline, County Cork. The total number of apprentices to be enlisted in 1998 has not been finalised but will be determined having regard to Defence Forces requirements in particular trades. At present my Department has no proposals for the expansion of the role of the Army Apprentice School.
