Vol. 492 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

120 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will ensure that elective varicose vein surgery be recommenced at Waterford Regional Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13346/98]

The provision of varicose vein surgery at Waterford Regional Hospital is a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board in the first instance. I understand from the board that some elective varicose vein surgery is carried out at Waterford Regional Hospital. The board expects that the amount of vascular surgery being carried out in the hospital will increase significantly arising from the appointment of a new consultant in vascular surgery for which funding has been provided by my Department. I understand the board expects an appointee to take up duty in the autumn.
