Michael Ring

Question:

139 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for hip replacement operations on both hips in view of the fact that she is in severe discomfort and pain. [13577/98]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board and I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.

Willie Penrose

Question:

140 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath is admitted to a hospital to have an important operative procedure carried out, as he has been brought into the hospital already to have this procedure carried out but it has not been done to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13578/98]

The provision of medical treatment in this case is a matter for the hospital concerned. I have asked the chief executive officer of the hospital to investigate the position in relation to this matter and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.
