Vol. 492 No. 1

Written Answers. - Toll Charges.

John Bruton

Question:

173 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals, if any, there are to amend the legislation which would abolish toll charges on the East Link for disabled drivers (details supplied). [13668/98]

The East Link Bridge by-laws exempt vehicles specially adapted for use by disabled persons from the payment of tolls. Such an exemption does not at present operate under the by-laws applying to the West Link Bridge. These were originally made by Dublin County Council, whose regulatory powers have since been taken over by the National Roads Authority.

I intend to ask the National Roads Authority to consult with National Toll Roads plc about the possibility of exempting disabled drivers at West Link on a similar basis to East Link.
