Vol. 492 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jack Wall

Question:

174 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the action, if any, his Department has taken regarding improvements to sewerage systems in a number of towns and villages (details supplied) in County Kildare in view of the fact that the lack of these facilities is preventing residential development. [13669/98]

There are no proposals with my Department for a sewerage scheme at Rathangan.

The position in relation to the other schemes is as follows: Castledermot — Kildare County Council was given approval to prepare a revised preliminary report for this scheme on 8 July 1997 and its revised proposal is awaited; Brownstown — A brief has been submitted to my Department but, given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve it; and, Athgarvan — A preliminary report for this scheme was approved on 26 March 1987. Advancement of the scheme is dependant on progress on the proposed extension of the Osberstown sewerage treatment plant, on which work is expected to commence this year. The preliminary report for the Athgarvan scheme is likely to require updating in the light of the lapsed time since it was first prepared.
