Vol. 492 No. 1

Written Answers. - Newspaper Advertising.

Derek McDowell

Question:

49 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will outline the expenditure on advertising for 1997 in each of the national daily, evening and Sunday newspapers, by his Department, and bodies under his aegis in receipt of Exchequer funds which are established by or under an Act of the Oireachtas. [13426/98]

My Department's expenditure on advertising in the national daily papers amounted to £20,133.27 in 1997.

The breakdown in respect of each of the national daily papers is as follows:

£

The Irish Times

2,222.00

Irish independent

15,924.27

The Examiner

726.00

The Sunday Tribune

1,261.00

No advertisements were placed with national evening newspapers. The bulk of advertising expenditure incurred by my Department related to the publication of statutory instruments and marine notices. The balance of the expenditure incurred was in respect of the promotion of safety awareness.
Advertising undertaken by bodies under the aegis of my Department is a day to day management issue for those bodies and I have no statutory function is that regard.
