Vol. 492 No. 2

Written Answers. - Designated Resort Areas.

Michael Finucane

Question:

107 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Finance if he will designate Foynes in County Limerick as a resort area in view of the marine related activities that take place at this location. [13796/98]

The tax relief scheme for certain resort areas was introduced on 1 July 1995 for three years on a pilot basis. I extended the termination date for the scheme from 30 June 1998 to 30 June 1999, subject to certain conditions, to allow for the completion of pipeline projects. Officials from my Department, the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation and the Revenue Commissioners are currently reviewing the pilot scheme. Any decision regarding the designation of new areas will have to take into consideration the findings of this review.
