Vol. 492 No. 2

Written Answers. - Interest Rates.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

110 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the extent to which the United Kingdom interest rates impact on the Irish economy following recent increases in the rates there; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13828/98]

The recent increase in UK interest rates of 0.25 per cent, announced by the Bank of England last Thursday, is not expected to affect current projections for the UK economy this year to any significant degree. It is anticipated, therefore, that the rate rise will have little or no impact on the Irish economy.
