Vol. 492 No. 2

Written Answers. - Traffic Regulations.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

121 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to introduce regulations and guidelines so that there is no charge for parking badges for disabled people. [13794/98]

The Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations, 1997, empower the Irish Wheelchair Association, the Disabled Drivers' Association and local authorities to issue disabled persons' parking permits; these entitle holders to exemptions from certain parking prohibitions and restrictions.

While the regulations do not address the detailed administration of this service by the agencies concerned, my Department understands that it is not their current practice to apply charges.
