Vol. 492 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

145 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the reason the recreation grant has not yet been paid to the Watergrass Hill Community Centre, which has submitted documentation and is still owed £20,000. [13783/98]

A grant of £20,000 was allocated to Watergrass Hill Community Association in July 1997 under the sports capital programme. In line with standard procedures, payment of the grant is subject to the association providing specific documentation and information confirming that the development complies with the terms and conditions of the programme. My Department recently wrote to the association requesting certain information still outstanding and when this is submitted and found to be in order, payment will be made.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

146 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received recent correspondence from a football club (details supplied) regarding the refusal of its application for national lottery funding; if he will now reconsider the decision to refuse funding to this club; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13784/98]

The club were informed in April 1998 that they were not among the clubs and organisations approved for grant aid under the sports capital programme in 1998. In correspondence recently received from the club, they have requested a meeting and my Department will be in contact with them in this regard shortly.

However, all available funding under the sports capital programme has now been committed to a number projects around the country and as a result I am not, therefore, in a position to reconsider their request for funding at this time.

The sports capital programme is currently under review. Accordingly, no further applications are being invited until the review is completed and I am in a position to publicise details of the new schemes.
