Question:

148 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the number of international events towards which grant aid has been allocated; the event; and the level of grant. [13786/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 147 and 148 together.

Under the new streamlined application format introduced in 1998 in relation to the grant scheme for national governing bodies of sport, a single grant amount was allocated this year to each organisation by way of contribution towards costs associated with administration, international competition and training, international events and meetings, organisation development, and equipment. Payment of the first instalment of the grant was made on 1 May 1998.

It is primarily a matter for NGBs to identify priority events in relation to its international programme for 1998, taking into account the level of resources available to the organisation and the relevance of the events to the organisation's overall development plan.
