Vol. 492 No. 2

Written Answers. - Waste Disposal.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

85 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Finance the arrangements, if any, made for the disposal of fluorescent lighting tubes from Government offices; his views on whether these arrangements are satisfactory; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13881/98]

It is the practice of the Office of Public Works to dispose of waste lamps, including fluorescent bulbs, in full compliance with the 1996 Waste Management Act. The Office of Public Works, in its general specifications, also requires contractors to comply with this Act, by disposing of hazardous waste to companies holding the relevant local authority permit and complying with EU (Waste) Regulations, 1979, EU (Toxic Dangerous Waste) Regulations 1982 and the Waste Management Act, 1996.
