Vol. 492 No. 4

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

186 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance if a C2 Certificate will issue in order that payment of a disabled person's grant for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford will be expedited; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14224/98]

Under the Housing Disabled Persons and Essential Repair Grants Regulations, 1993 the applicant is required to ensure that the contractor carrying out the works is tax cleared. It is made clear to the applicant in the application form for the scheme that payment of a grant is conditional on the contractor holding a current appropriate certificate.

The difficulty in regard to paying the grant in this case has arisen because the relevant tax clearance certificate has not yet been provided to Waterford Corporation. The issue of a certificate is a tax matter between the contractor and his local tax office and the Revenue Commissioners are unable to comment on the tax status of the contractor without his consent.
