Vol. 492 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Bernard Allen

Question:

348 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science the decisions, if any, made in relation to Gaelscoil An Ghoirt Álainn, Cork, to avoid the school being evicted from its premises as threatened in the two month deadline given by the landlady which was to take effect on 1 June 1998; and if his Department has sanctioned the purchase and renovation of the premises. [14261/98]

My Department is fully acquainted with the accommodation difficulties being experienced by Gaelscoil An Ghoirt Álainn, Cork. Purchase and renovation of the premises currently occupied by the school is just one option for the future. The Department has also been involved in examining the feasibility of a greenfield site. As of yet, no decision has been made regarding either option. The case is receiving priority attention within my Department.

The Department is working actively to ensure that irrespective of which option is ultimately decided upon the school will have accommodation next September. Ongoing contact is being maintained with the school authorities in relation to this matter.

Phil Hogan

Question:

349 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the necessary finance for an extended PE hall in the con-text of design plans for the proposed new community school at Ferrybank, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14262/98]

John McGuinness

Question:

364 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the status of an application to his Department for an extended physical education hall at the new community school Ferrybank, County Kilkenny, following the amalgamation of Slieverue vocational school and Ferrybank Convent; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14441/98]

The schedule of accommodation for the new community school at Ferrybank includes provision for a standard physical education hall of 393m 2 and ancillary/changing area of 104m 2. Because of the implications for the cost of the second level capital programme, I am not in a position to increase these dimensions.
