Vol. 492 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hyperbaric Oxygen Centre.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

47 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the operation of the hyperbaric oxygen centre in Bandon, County Cork; and whether he is prepared to support its operation and development. [14165/98]

The effectiveness of, and national need for, this form of treatment is under examination by my Department at present. In the event of a decision in favour of publicly funding a hyperbaric oxygen chamber in Ireland being taken, the optimum location for such a facility will be decided taking account of such factors as the availability of existing expertise and experience in this field.
