Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

343 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the necessary finance to provide a general purpose room at Edenmore national school (details supplied) in County Monaghan in view of the fact that it is urgently needed; when planning will commence for the necessary permanent extension; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14932/98]

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

356 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide funding for a general purpose room at a school (details supplied) in County Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15122/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 343 and 356 together.

The pace at which general purpose facilities can be extended to all schools is dictated by the financial resources available. The priority has to be the provision of essential classroom accommodation and the elimination of existing substandard classrooms. My Department has a record of the school's application which will be considered in the context of future capital allocations.
