Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Job Sharing Scheme.

Pat Carey

Question:

357 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science the discussions, if any, his Department has had with post-primary schools which are in an over-quota position and will not be allocated eligible part-time hours for teachers who are on the job sharing scheme from the 1998-99 school year onwards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15123/98]

A permanent job sharing scheme for second level teachers has been agreed between my Department, the teacher unions and the managerial authorities at second level. The circular outlining the terms of the scheme will be issued shortly.

Where a school is in an over-quota position it is open to the authorities of the school concerned to apply to my Department for the allocation of hours to compensate for the loss of teaching hours arising from a job-sharing arrangement. Each case is considered on its merits.
