Question:

368 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the average pupil to teacher ratio in County Kildare in relation to primary schools; the schools with a higher ratio; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15209/98]

The information requested by the Deputy is being compiled from records within my Department and will be forwarded to him in due course. The pupil-teacher ratio at national level is 21.7 to 1 in the current year. It is anticipated that the ratio will decline to below 21.5:1 in the 1998-99 school year.

369 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the average pupil to teacher ratio in County Kildare in respect of second level schools; the schools with a higher ratio; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15210/98]

The average pupil-teacher ratio in second level schools in County Kildare in the current school year is 16.6:1. This takes account of the total teacher allocation to schools including, where relevant, ex-quota and concessionary posts based on the individual needs of the schools. The following schools have a pupil-teacher ratio higher than 16.6:1: Scoil na mBráithre, Áth Í; Scoil Mhuire, Áth Í; St. Wolstan's, Celbridge; Salesian secondary school, Celbridge; Dominican College, Newbridge; Patrician Day College, Newbridge; Cross and Passion College, Kilcullen; Acadamh Sheosamh Naofa, Cill Dara; Presentation Convent, Kildare; Meán Scoil Iognáid Rís, An Nás; Clongowes Wood College, Naas; Coláiste Naomh Mhuire, An Nás.
