Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Liam Aylward

Question:

215 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will have arrangements made to have a letter of approval issued to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who sold his suckler cow quota of 43 in October 1997 but payment cannot issue until he receives approval in writing from the Department. [16021/98]

The trading period for the sale-lease of suckler cow quotas for 1998 opened on 1 March 1998. My Department first became aware that the person named intended to sell his suckler cow quota on 3 June 1998 when the auctioneer engaged by the person named lodged the necessary forms to effect the sale.

Approximately 4,500 applications to transfer quota have been received, and those, including that pertaining to the person named, are now being processed. It is expected that approvals will be issued to all transferors and transferees within the next two weeks.
