Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

John McGuinness

Question:

332 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the stage at which schemes (details supplied) in County Kilkenny are at within his Department; when approval is likely to issue in relation to each one; if his attention has been drawn to the serious problems within the local community in view of the lack of these important schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16163/98]

A brief and revised preliminary report for sewerage schemes to serve Urlingford and Kilmacow respectively have been submitted to my Department. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to advance these schemes. The council advised my Department, last week, that it has adopted part X of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Regulations, 1994 in respect of developments in connection with the proposed sewerage scheme at Graignamanagh, and its further proposals are awaited.

The Thomastown sewerage scheme is included in my Department's water and sewerage services investment programme to be advanced through planning in 1998. A brief for the appointment of consultants for this scheme was approved on 28 January 1998.
