Written Answers. - Inland Waterways.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

129 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the steps, if any, his Department intends to take to address concerns regarding pollution of the great western lakes and their surrounding catchment areas as detailed in correspondence from the Connaught Council Advisory and Consultative Committee. [16409/98]

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 219 and 224 of 28 April 1998 concerning the measures under way to address concerns about pollution of the great western lakes. I met with a deputation from the Connaught Council Advisory and Consultative Committee in April 1998 to discuss its concerns as detailed in a letter they provided at the meeting. I will be in further correspondence with it on the issues involved.
