Liam Aylward

Question:

172 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if, in view of his recent meeting with representatives of a college (details supplied) in County Kilkenny and the details submitted by the college to his Department, he will issue approval in relation to the refurbishment and upgrading of its physical education hall and sports facility, toilet and glass hall. [16410/98]

An application has been received from the school in County Kilkenny for refurbishment works to the physical education hall and sports facility.

Following a recent meeting with officials from my Department, the school was requested to supply detailed proposals for the phasing of this work and their proposals for the upgrading of glass hall and toilet facilities.

I can assure the Deputy that when this information has been supplied by the school's architect further consideration will be given to the school's requirements.

Question:

173 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress, if any, to date on the application for funding by the board of management of a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny where improvement works are urgently required; and whether a report has been received in his Department from the local Office of Public Works. [16411/98]

The manager of the school referred to by the Deputy has applied to my Department for grant assistance towards the cost of a range of improvement works at the school.

A report was received from the Office of Public Works and following receipt of same it was necessary for the school manager to appoint a consultant engineer for further clarification on the electrical and mechanical element of the works. When this report is received, a decision will be taken on the application in the light of the urgency of the works and available capital funding.

174 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if a decision has been made on the application for funding by the board of management of a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny towards the cost of improvement works and the provision of additional ancillary accommodation in view of the fact that a report has been submitted to his Department by the school inspector. [16412/98]

The manager of the school referred to by the Deputy has applied to my Department for grant assistance towards the cost of a range of improvement works and providing additional ancillary accommodation at the school.

A report has been received from the school's inspector and it is currently under examination by my Department's building unit. I expect that this examination will be completed in the near future and a decision will then be taken in the matter.
